Obituary of Albert B. Blackadar

ALBERT B BLACKADAR NP Born to Albert and Marlene Blackadar on June 8,1953, in Haverhill, MA. and passed on August 31, 2017 in Howey-in-the-Hills, FL after a long illness. Al attended nursing school in Haverhill, MA and married Dorothy (Dot) Carini (McKellick) and had two beautiful children, Beau and Jade. The young family relocated to West Paris, ME in 1977, and Al worked at St Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, ME. He had a strong passion for Emergency Medicine and attended a specialized Nurse Practitioner program at Alleghany General Hospital in Pittsburg, PA. After graduation, in 1981, he moved his family to Searsport, ME. During his long career in medicine, Al worked at Waldo County General Hospital in the Emergency Department in Belfast from 1981-1988. He then accepted a position at Mt Desert Island Hospital in Bar Harbor until 1995. He returned to Waldo County General Hospital in 1995 and remained the “Pillar of the ER” until his retirement in December 2016. Al always said he worked with the best people in the world and considered himself both lucky and privileged to be surrounded by wonderful patients and colleagues. He rarely left his shift without giving a bear hug to all he worked with that day. An advocate of addiction recovery in the Waldo County community, Al had a heart for those afflicted with that disease. He always attempted to share his experience, strength and hope to help someone when needed. Al remarried, to Theresa (Teri) Gallo Blackadar, who was his love, partner and friend. She was able to be by his side through his final hour. With this marriage he inherited more children, Laura and Ben, along with their spouses, Ben Smith (married to Laura) and Connie Buckley (married to Ben). Now grandchildren. The first was Emma, another curly haired love, like his daughter Jade. Next came Wyatt, a deep thinker, wise beyond his years. Then, sweet little David, a tenderhearted soul. Baby Charlotte was recently born in June and baby Isabelle will be here soon! Al lived and loved with tremendous passion. He enjoyed sailing, skiing, motorcycling, deep sea fishing, and bicycling, as well as building homes and woodworking. Most importantly he loved people and spending time with his family and friends, which often required travel and a good restaurant. Through his life he was also devoted to several dogs and cats, most recently Banks and Grace. He will be missed. He is survived by his mother, Marlene Blackadar (Haverhill, MA), his wife, Teri Blackadar, (Levant, ME), son, Beau Blackadar (Tacoma, WA), daughter, Jade Blackadar (San Diego, CA), stepson, Benjamin Buckley (Groveland, FL), “adopted” daughter, Connie Buckley (Groveland, FL), stepdaughter, Laura Buckley Smith and her husband Benjamin Smith (Hampden, ME), brother, Lloyd Blackadar and wife Linda Desmond (Hamstead, NH.), motherin-law, Loretta Gallo (Dunnellon, FL), cousin, Bucky Law and wife Kathy (West Newburyport, MA), grandchildren: David Blackadar (Tacoma, WA), Emma and Isabelle Buckley (Groveland, FL)and Wyatt and Charlotte Smith (Hampden, ME), Other family: Vernon and Sandy Blackadar (Lithia, FL), Marie and Steve Hall (Coventry, CT), Cyndi and Bill Callan (Springfield, IL) and several nieces and nephews.
