Obituary of George E Mercer

Searsport, ME - George Edward Mercer (GEM) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 18 with his beloved wife by his side. He fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. George was born in Amesbury, MA in 1939 and grew up on the shores of the Merrimac River. Affectionately known as Pop Pop, he is survived by his wife of 37 years, Diane (Boucher) Mercer; his daughters Kerri Richardson and Debra Edgerly (and husband Curt) and his eight grandchildren Denise, Dillon and Danielle Richardson and Kyle (and wife Rachel), Matthew, Adam, Emily and Kaylie Edgerly. George is also survived by his brother James Mercer (and wife Carlene). He was also especially fond of his dogs, Brutus and Jack. George had a great love of wooden boats and the waterways of the east coast, especially cherishing his time aboard his houseboat the "Diane Martha". He will always be remembered for his humor, wit and upbeat attitude.
