Obituary of Suzanne Kenoyer Bolduc

Suzanne Kenoyer Bolduc, born on October 7, 1952, died peacefully on Sunday, May 14. It was Mother’s Day, and she was fittingly in the company of her husband and children. The third of four children born to Winfred and Muriel Kenoyer, Sue graduated from Erskine Academy and the University of Southern Maine, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. Sue and her husband, Tom, moved with their young family to Islesboro in 1990, where Sue began her 24 year career at Islesboro Central School as the K-12 Special Education Director. She was a dedicated and tireless contributor to the school and community around her, influencing generations of islanders. An exemplar of positivity and spirit, Sue inspired those around her to get involved and do their best. She started and coached the school pom-pom team, and was a personal cheerleader and life coach to many. She directed dozens of school plays – constructing her own sets or recruiting friends and family to help. Sue organized countless fundraisers and traveled around the world with multiple senior classes. She served on a number of the school’s committees and was the vice president of the Community Fund. After her retirement from teaching in 2012, Sue teamed with her dear friend Maxine to start the local flower business Botanica Designs. The pair brightened many homes and weddings with their stunning arrangements. She couldn’t pick a favorite flower – just as she did with people, she found something to appreciate in all. There are people who undeniably make the world a better place, and Sue was one of them. Her contagious smile and energetic wave brought joy to the world around her, and she never missed an opportunity to sing or dance. Sue appreciated the beauty of both a beach stone and a diamond, and knew the value of kindness, loyalty, and friendship. Her greatest accomplishments were the lives she touched, which are too numerous to list. She will be missed and remembered by the countless people whose hearts, minds and souls she affected. Sue is survived by her husband of 40 years, Tom L. Bolduc; daughter Nicole and husband Michael Decker; daughter Annie and husband William Avantaggio; son Jon and wife Becky Bolduc; grandchildren Emelia and Thatcher Bolduc, Molly and Maxwell Decker; step-grandchildren Sophie and Ethan Avantaggio; brother Ron and wife Pam Kenoyer; sister Karen and husband Lew Purinton; brother Scott and wife Debbie Kenoyer; and Ben Roberts. A service will be held to celebrate Sue’s life on June 17, at the Islesboro Central School. It will begin at 11:30 a.m., with a reception following. Those who wish to honor Sue’s memory may do so by contributing funds to help establish a scholarship in her name. Checks should be made out to and sent to Islesboro Central School, P.O. Box 118, Islesboro Maine 04848. Put “Miss Sue’s Scholarship Fund” on the memo line.
