Obituary of Maurice Turner

Maurice “Elwin” Turner Sr., 81, passed away May 16, 2017 at Inland Hospital in Waterville with his loving family by his side. Elwin was born June 25, 1935 to the late Maurice and Lizzie Turner and grew up in the Freedom area. Elwin’s life passion was working with heavy equipment. That he did with his son Jr. He owned his own business for many years in Freedom where he settled down and raised a family of three sons. Elwin later enjoyed driving a school bus for 30 years. He loved spending time with his second family at Ridge Top Restaurant and driving his tractor in local parades. Elwin also served his community as a former Fire Chief for the town of Freedom. He could often be found tinkering and repairing small engines with his son Dennis, or telling stories with his dog precious or gardening with his son Tim. Elwin enjoyed watching his many family members who raced at the local tracks. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed by many. Elwin was predeceased by his wife Judith; his daughter Darlene, his granddaughter Heather Lappin and his siblings, Regina Harriman, Meldon SR, Winfield and Raoul. Surviving are his children, Jr. and wife Judy, Dennis and wife Vicki, Tim and wife Tammy; siblings, Geneva Peavey, Shirley Peavey, Dicky and wife Tinker, Lester and wife Sharon, Sharon Leeman and husband Norman, David and wife Caroline, Willis and wife Wanda, Peggy Cowing and husband Paul, Edward and wife Bea; grandchildren, Craig, Randy, Sarah, Danny, Amanda, Austin, Dylan, and Kyle; great grandchildren Wes, William, Casey, Austin, Jesse, and Landon, Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, and one very special friend Ruthie. Graveside services will be held for Elwin on May 22, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Pleasant hill Cemetery in Freedom. Services have been entrusted to the Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast ME 04915.
