Obituary of George H. Littlefield
BROOKS
GEORGE HOLMES LITTLEFIELD, passed away at Maine General in Augusta on March 20, 2017 after a long decline in his health. George was born in Portland, Maine on August 25, 1922. He was the youngest son of Eben and Maude Littlefield.
George was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, June Mosley and Betty Hincks, his brother Joseph Littlefield, his son-in-law Edward Taylor and his sister-in-law and husband, Joseph and Margaret Sullivan. He is now resting in peace with his wife, Kaye Littlefield.
George was a graduate of Morse Memorial High School in Brooks. He was a dairy farmer for his entire life. Due to his involvement with the Waldo County Soil and Water District, he was given several awards for his service as a supervisor and his outstanding cooperation with their programs. George was a town selectman for many years. He also served on the Planning Board and was a member of the cemetery trust fund for nearly 25 years as the treasurer. George and Kaye Littlefield were named Citizens of the Year for the Town of Brooks in 1986. He was an avid gardener who grew enough vegetables to feed his family and neighbors.
George was diagnosed with dementia several years ago. He resided at Bedside Manor in Oakland, Maine for the last two years of his life and the family is very grateful for the excellent care that he received at Bedside Manor and to all of those who cared for him throughout the years.
George is survived by his six children, five grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Children, Regina Oliver and husband Herbert of Waterville, Lawrence Littlefield of Ogunquit, Stephen Littlefield of Brooks, Mary Beth Taylor of Stuart, Florida, Scott Littlefield of Brooks, and Sam Littlefield of Brooks. Grandchildren and their spouses, Bethany Oliver and Denise Pooler, Megan and Ace Winther, Kyle and Nancy Oliver, Shane and Tammy Littlefield, Shandy and Charley Bittle. Great-grandchildren, Emma and Mia Winter, Adam and Cameron Littlefield, Tennyson Martin, Zach and Ben Oliver, Kathleen, Lillian and Levi Bittle and Katarena Taylor. George is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Contributions may be made in George’s memory to the Alzheimer Association or to Brooks Historical Society, c/o Paula Miron, Reynolds Road, Brooks, ME 04921. A memorial service will be held on July 8, 2017 at the Brooks Congregational Church, 22 Veterans Highway, Brooks, ME 004921. Services have been entrusted to the Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, ME 04915.
