Obituary of Frank Charles Knowles

Frank Charles Knowles, 84, passed away March 16, 2017 at his home in Frankfort. Frank was born June 8th, 1932 in Winterport to Carl Webster Knowles Sr. and Laura Miriam Leach Knowles. Frank grew up in Winterport and graduated in the class of 1950. Frank was married to Margaret Kingsbury in 1951 and resided in Winterport until 1956 when he built his home in Frankfort. He was first employed as a truck driver by Dayson Bedding and then to Dakin Sporting Goods for a short time before working 8 years as the sewing machine mechanic for Emple Knitting Mills on Columbia street in Bangor. He also worked at Viner Shoe Factory in Bangor. In 1961 he was asked to drive school bus for S.A.D. 56 until they could find a permanent driver. He retired from that job 43 years later in 2004. As a young man Frank was well known as a great pool player and an exceptionally good swimmer. He loved a good game of cards with friends. From 1970 to 1985 he spent his weekends traveling New England with Margaret and their boys buying depression glass for the mail order business they had. Frank was predeceased by his parents, his son Michael Knowles, his brother Carl Knowles Jr., his brother Victor Knowles and his sister Carolyn Blethen. Frank is survived by his wife Margaret, his sons Frank S. Knowles, Trevor Knowles and his wife Barbara, Patrick Knowles and his wife Patti; grandsons Michael Knowles Jr., Jeremy Knowles, Trevor Knowles II, Jason Knowles, Jamie Knowles, Shane Knowles and his wife Melissa of Cape Elizabeth; one granddaughter Brenna Mae; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. No service is planned at this time.
