Obituary of Richard S Lenfest

Richard Sibley Lenfest went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 5, 2017 at Waldo County General Hospital, Belfast, Maine with his family by his side. He was born on February 24, 1941 to Sibley and Marguerite (Richards) Lenfest in Malden, MA. He graduated from Malden High School in 1959 and served in the US Navy aboard the USS Essex. He was an employee of the US Postal Service and a self employed scenic photographer. In his retirement years he realized his lifelong dream of living in Maine where he had spent summers as a boy. He was always busy baking pies, cakes, etc. to sell at local farmers markets. Some of his favorite pastimes were tapping maple trees to make maple syrup, cooking pancake breakfasts for family and friends and researching family history. He created a program titled, “Lenfest/Lenfestey from the Crusades to Gettysburg” which he presented to local historical societies. He was a member of Bayshore Baptist Church in Lincolnville, ME where he served as a trustee. He was preceded in death by his parents and his niece, Susan (Bellaire) Fultz. He is survived by his wife, Alexandra Lenfest of Belmont, NH; daughters, Sandra Marie Gillis of Laconia, NH and Kristen Anne Lenfest of Belmont, NH; grandchildren, Michael and Elizabeth Gillis of Laconia, NH; sisters, Mary Wright and husband, Carlton, of Hollywood, FL and Janice Bellaire and husband, William, of Clinton, ME; nieces and nephews, Mark Bellaire and his wife, Erin, of Clinton, ME and their son, Jacob, Stephen Bellaire and his wife, Ruth Leon of Scarborough, ME and Larry Fultz of Oakland, ME; Ruth’s mother, "Molly" Ruth Vazquez, and his much loved sheltie, Liberty. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 2:30 pm at Bayshore Baptist Church on Rt 1 in Lincolnville, ME, just north of the Lincolnville Beach area. A graveside service will be held in the late spring. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made in Richard's memory to Bayshore Baptist Church, the Gideons, a local animal shelter, or the charity of your choice.
