Kay was a friend at the El Cerrito garden club. I enjoyed her company and visiting her wonderful garden. Always a gracious hostess, her home was the setting for many garden club events. She was a delightful person to be around. Joyce Hawley

I send my condolences to the Riddell families. For a few years as a staff member of Save The Bay, Oakland, CA, I had the pleasure of talking to Kay by phone. She was an ardent and generous supporter of local environmental efforts, and Save The Bay was grateful to be among those nonprofits. Her commitment to a beautiful, healthy planet created a wonderful legacy of land and water protection. My heartfelt appreciation for her life, well lived. Catherine Fox, Berkeley, CA

I knew Kay from my days in the California Chapter, American Rhododendron Society, and she continued this association until late last year when she left Oakland to live with her daughter in Maine. I also knew Kay, and her late husband Robert, as we were members of the First Congregational Church, Berkeley. Kay was an outstanding lady and had a sharp wit, and she shared generously with friends, Church, garden members, and the community. May she now rest from her labors in eternal bliss. Lawrence V. Both I and the UC Botanical Garden have lost a great friend. Kay's connection went far back, with Robert being Chair of the Friends, and Kay continued coming in to enjoy the Garden I interacted with Kay many times over the 12 years I served as Director of the Garden and always looked forward to her visits because I knew I would be greeted by the warmest friendliest smile one could ask for. I will think of her with fond memories as I stroll through, specially around the rhododendrons which she so loved. Paul Licht, Director Emeritus of UC Botanical Garden
