Obituary of Mary K Schweikert

Mary Knapp Schweikert, 88 of Searsport, passed away peacefully, in her home on December, 17, 2016. Born in Tuxedo, NY, Mary attended Edgewood Park Junior College in Briarcliff Manor, NJ. Upon graduation she worked as an assistant to the President of Chase Bank in NYC, then at the Maplewood Bank and Trust Company. Mary was married to Donald K Schweikert for nearly 49 years. He predeceased her in April of 2016. She was also predeceased by her sister, Charlotte Backlund of Plymouth MA, in the spring of 2016. Mary and Don resided in Maplewood, NJ and then Morristown, NJ. They spent many years working side by side at Marine Agency, an independent insurance agency which they owned. Following retirement they eventually moved to Searsport to live closer to family. For many years they spent the winter months aboard their boat “The Maredon” in Jupiter, FL. Mary was a loving step-mother to Ken and Wendy Schweikert of Blue Hill, Carroll Schweikert of Key West, Rick and Laurie Schweikert of Searsport and David and Alexa Schweikert of Swanville. She was a special aunt to Doug Backlund of Duxbury, MA and Susan McCombie of Indiana, PA and their families. Mary also leaves seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren whom she cherished. The family would like to extend its gratitude to Mary’s team of loving caregivers: Ruth, Danielle, Kelly, Carol and Heather. A memorial service will be held at the Searsport 1st Congregational Church, Saturday January, 7th at 3:00 PM. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
