Obituary of Charles H Reynolds

Charles Horatio Reynolds was called to be with his Lord in Heaven, Dec. 14, 2016, at the age of 90. Charles was the son of Alfred and Della Reynolds, born on their farm in Brooks, Maine, July 22, 1926. Charles worked on the family farm with supervision from his older siblings in his youth, and graduated from Morse Memorial High School in Brooks in 1944. He went to work as an apprentice at Milton B. Hills Lumber, where he learned the building trade. Soon after, he and his brother Frank went into the business of building homes and other structures. Following a boom in the poultry industry, Charles worked as foreman for a contractor building industrial chicken barns. He subsequently went into business for himself, serving the greater Belfast area well into his 70s. Charles loved to dance, and it was at the Blue Goose in Northport in 1957, where he chose his dance partner for life. Katherine was by his side until the end. Charles became a member of the First Church in Belfast in 1962 and could often be seen working on the building, and pitching in wherever he could to lend a hand. He was a man of integrity, honest to a fault, if he did something that didn’t meet his client’s expectations, he fixed it at his expense. He shared these qualities with his children, along with a love for music, family and GOD. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Red Sox and Patriots, and also enjoyed watching the Belfast Lions Football and Basketball Teams. He instilled a love for competitive sports in his children. In addition, he loved to garden, which lead to a competitive streak as attested to by anyone who was witness to annual bragging rights with brother Everett as to who raised the biggest potato. If there was music around town, Charles was there to hear it, especially when the bands played at the Broiler festival (and later the Bay festival). During the summer, on a Thursday evening you could see the couple sitting up on High street listening to the music. Katherine normally at his side, Charles could be seen tapping his foot and clapping along. Charles was predeceased by his parents, 7 brothers and 3 sisters. He is survived by his wife Katherine, of 58 years, and their four children: Alfred and Catherine Reynolds of Morrill, Walter and Shelley Reynolds of Brunswick, Susan and David Guzman of Huntersville, NC, and Diane Reynolds of Veazie. Also surviving is his older brother, Everett and his wife Anita of Lincolnville. He leaves four grandchildren, Justin Reynolds and wife Amber, Corey Reynolds and wife Ashley, and Grace and Lynn Reynolds. He also leaves his precious great-grandchildren, Hope, Welker, Harper, Rex and Haven. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at the First Church in Belfast, starting at 2pm, Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016. There will be a visitation following the service in the First Church Parish Hall. In support of his love for his grandchildren and great children’s education and activities, the family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Tri-Town PTG, c/o Amber Reynolds, 119 Poors Mill Rd., Morrill, ME 04952. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home, Belfast. Memories and condolences may be offered to the family at ripostafh.com
