Obituary of Elaine Madeline Bailey
Elaine Madeline Annas Bailey passed quietly in St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor, November 13,
2016. She was born February 17, 1930 at Presque Isle, daughter of Philip A. Annas and Elva May Duncan Annas. She graduated from Crosby High School in 1947 while her father was the superintendent of the district. She was a graduate of Bates College (June, 1951).
She married in Belfast on December 10, 1951, Everard Allen Bailey, Jr., the son of Everard, Sr., and Blanch White Bailey of Belfast. Together they raised four children. She was a teacher and an avid reader. She hunted and she loved the woods of Maine. She was a longtime member of the Sportsmen’s Alliance and a life member of the NRA. She taught Spanish at Bucksport High School, where she coached the cheerleading squads. Her family was always of first importance to her and she kept up correspondence with numerous relations from California to Aroostook.
She is survived by children Fred and Karen Bailey of Bangor, Robert O. and Faith Bailey of Bangor, Barbara Bailey of New Hampshire, and a granddaughter, Erika L. Bailey also of Bangor.
Only a small, private memorial will be held. In lieu of flowers, friends and relatives wishing to remember her are encouraged to make donations to their local soup kitchens or other institutions which feed people in need.
