Ellie was a close friend of my mom Sharlene in Litchfield in the 1960s and 1970s. To this day, we all remember her as lovely, warm and welcoming. Join in honoring their life - plant a memorial tree

Barbara Muller posted a condolence

I am Barbara Wood Muller. As children, our families were best of friends. I remember Eleanor as always being a wonderful role model for the whole family. I admired her parents and sisters and learned so very much from the entire family. I have a vivid memory of a room in their home in Weston which was stuffed with ribbons and trophies from the riding achievements of all three girls. I recall Eleanor as having the beauty and grace akin to that of Jacqueline Bovier Kennedy Onassis. To me, she resembled Jackie. I still ride a wonderful horse at the age of 75, thanks to the powerful example of this family. She and the family of her youth were truly inspiring people. I am certainly saddened to learn that she is gone. I should have attempted to connect many years ago. Prayers to all her friends and family!!

I am fortunate to have Anne, one of Eleanor's daughters as my closest friend. While I didn't have too many opportunities to spend time with Eleanor, I do remember one of those times, in her 80's, that she drove, all by herself, from Florida to Maine. I was actually in awe, since, as Anne can attest to, I don't even like driving to Portland! I was so impressed, she was a wonderful role model. Now I understand where Anne got some of her love of travel and road trips.❤️ I have also had the pleasure of sharing many a Thanksgiving supper with Anne and Sue and other members of their extended family. So I know that Eleanor was a beloved and inspiring woman. I feel very lucky to know her daughters and know that through them, and the others that Eleanor loved, her spirit will be living on. Warmly, Linda Heller

Our lovely Eleanor. Your heart as bright as a mid summers day sun. Your eyes sparkled like the Great Northern Star. Your smile as pearly as the Great Pearly Gates you have entered. You always complimented ones appearance as "my you look lovely today". We will always miss you in a "lovely" manner. Lots of love, lovely Miss Eleanor! Thelma Boulier.

Mrs. Funderburk, Mom Ellie, Ellie, and eventually Eleanor: I have had the privilege of knowing this woman, whom I came to love as my second Mom for 55 years. Her daughter Susan has been my very best friend for close to 56 years now. I first met Eleanor when she was pregnant with Robert. I have so many wonderful memories of her and her first husband during my "formative" years when my home life seemed to be in turmoil more times than not. In 55 years, I never heard her yell in anger, swear, or conduct her self in any other way than with dignity and grace. I often wondered how she managed that with 5 children. Her home was my safe haven, when mine was not, and when I would show up unannounced and uninvited, I was always welcomed by her smile, warmth, hugs and understanding regardless of the time. To say she had a profound impact on my life would be a gross understatement. I think Susan may know how I felt about her Mom, but I'm not sure the other kids did. So to Susan, Anne, Jamie, Robert and yes, Lois too, thank you. I will always be grateful to each of you and consider my life to have been richly blessed in having been given the chance to share a piece of her life. There will never be another Mom Ellie! You are so very loved.

We are so grateful for the kind folks in the Weston and Waltham, Massachusetts area who have been helping us plan our mother, Eleanor's, memorial service. We will be gathering to remember her and celebrate her life at the First Baptist Church in Weston, Massachusetts, on Saturday morning, July 29, 2017, at 12:00 noon. As those who knew Mom would expect, there will be lots of beautiful music! Thank you all who have posted comforting messages here. Susan Rainsley (daughter)
