Obituary of Philip K. Hutchinson

DIXMONT Philip K. Hutchinson Sr. 93, of Dixmont, ME, passed peacefully on September 4, 2016, at his daughter's home in Seabrook, NH. He had been surrounded by all of his loved ones. On September 20, 1922 he was born in Beverly, MA to Raymond and Evelyn (Knowles) Hutchinson. The second oldest of five children. Sisters, Constance, Marion, Rosamond and brother, Frank. In 1941 he graduated from Lynn English High School in Lynn, MA. The first great thing he did in life was to marry Katharine G. Moore (Kiffy) of Newton Heights, MA. They were married for many years and out of their love for each other had nine wonderful children. Phil's second great thing was to join the US Navy/Air, Night Fighter Squadron 79 in 1942 during WWII. He served proudly until his Honorable Discharge in 1945. After the war had ended he received a "Commendation of Gratitude" letter from the Secretary of the Navy, James Forrestall, for his services during our Nation's time of Crisis. The third great thing Phil did was to teach his children to love and to care about others, that we may carry on his great zest for life. Phil was never happier than when he was helping others. For many years Phil owned and operated his own bicycle and outboard motor repair shop on Washington Street in Marblehead, MA. "North Shore Outboard & Bicycle Service" In 1964 with their large family he and Kiffy moved to Newburyport, MA. Phil worked for the General Electric in Lynn, MA for 36 years until his retirement in 1986. He began as a coil winder and worked his way up to Supervisor of the Steam Turbine Engine Division -- Jet Engine Test. When the space program was in its infancy he worked at the GE on the Gemini Project. Over the years in his "spare time" Phil and Kiffy bought homes badly in need of repair and brought them back to life. One of his proudest efforts was a beautiful Federalist in Magnolia, MA, once famously called "The House of Color." Phil and Kiffy retired to Byfield, MA, for fourteen years, then to the foothills of Dixmont, ME where they lived and loved until Kiffy's passing. Phil moved to Florida for a short time, then returned to his and Kiffy's home in Dixmont. There he enjoyed life until he went to live with his daughter in Seabrook, NH where he was able to be closer to his true loved ones and dear old friends. He shared many of his incredible life stories with his Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren. Phil loved being surrounded by so many dear ones that appreciated him greatly. He had love and affection for all. Phil survived daughter, Bonnie K. Genna, of Detroit, ME, daughter, Sharon A. Freeman, of Berwick, ME, son, Alan S. Hutchinson, of Cape Cod. Phil's dear wife, Katharine G. Hutchinson, of Dixmont, ME preceded him by fourteen years. He leaves behind with all his love his children, Barbara G. Hutchinson, of Troy, ME, Philip K. Hutchinson Jr. and wife, Marge, of Ramona, CA, Evelyn M. Gaouette, of Raymond, NH, Jacqueline M. Hutchinson, of Buhl, ID, Jeanne E. Gaouette and Roy Lewis, of Castleford, ID, Sallie A. Zinck and husband, Mike, of Seabrook, NH, sons-in-law, Anthony J. Genna, Detroit, ME and Rocky Freeman, Dover, NH. In addition, there are many Grands, Great's and Great Great Grandchildren whom he loved so very much! May this remarkable man (our dear Dad) return to the Love of his Life and find peace for all eternity in the arms of his dear "Kiffy." A special thank you to the Rockingham VNA/Hospice and all those who came by on a daily basis to help, comfort and care for our Dad/Grampa. Private services will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers those who wish may donate to your local animal shelter in Phil's memory.
