Obituary of Luis Avila

Luis Avila, 84 of Lincolnville, passed away October 3, 2019 in Belfast. A caring and conscientious doctor, who took the Hippocratic oath to heart and profoundly impacted the life of thousands in the predominantly Hispanic community of Paterson, NJ Dedicated and devoted to his vocation in life, he healed people’s bodies and minds with both the knowledge of medicine as a Board-Certified internist and certified acupuncturist, and by the compassion of Buddhism which he practiced deeply. Luis traveled the world and was particularly interested in Asian culture. He was an amateur gemologist who created his artwork in semi-precious stones. Luis was a caring and loving father of two daughters. His daughter Cristina Avila who predeceased him and his surviving daughter and son-in-law Laura Avila and Martin Ferrick. A memorial service in his honor will take place in the first floor meeting room, the Belfast Free Library, on Thursday, October 17, at 12:15.
