Michael George Murphy Obituary

Michael G. Murphy, 79, a devoted Christian, returned to God on July 20, 2026.

Born in Belfast on October 29, 1946, to Osborne and Priscilla (Smith) Murphy, Mike spent his childhood in the Head of the Tide neighborhood, where he shared countless adventures with lifelong friends. He carried with him many stories of hunting, fishing, and growing up in the Maine outdoors that he loved.

Mike was a proud Papa to Nick, Jace, Ricker, and Walker. He cherished every moment spent building toys, pulling sleds, and exploring the brook with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Patricia Murphy; and his brothers‑in‑law, Robert Larry, Jon Ross, and John Fraser. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley; his son, Stanley Murphy, and daughter‑in‑law, Sherry Murphy; his daughter, Carrie Murphy Jean, and son‑in‑law, Eric Jean; his grandsons, Nick Murphy, Jace Murphy, Ricker Jean and Walker Jean; his sisters, Sheila Larry and Jackie Woodrow; his brother‑in‑law, Dan Woodrow; his brother‑in‑law, Donnie Hahn, and wife, Lynne Hahn; his sister‑in‑law, Bonnie Cushman, and husband, Don Cushman; his sisters‑in‑law, Gwen Fraser and Jeanna Ross; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on August 1, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Waldo Town Community Hall.   Memories and condolences may be shared with his family on his tribute wall.
