Klaus Anselm Obituary

Belfast, ME — Klaus Anselm, age 91, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026, in Portland, Maine. Born on April 1, 1935, Klaus was the oldest child of three to Eugen and Emily Anselm. After graduating medical school, Klaus spent the majority of his medical career serving the people of Southern Colorado at a clinic he helped found.

Klaus married Joan Pearce in 1963 and they shared 63 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they raised a family in rural Colorado, where they bred dogs, rode horses, occasionally kept geese, and found many ingenious ways to keep their two sons exhausted.

After retiring from medicine in 1999, Klaus and Joan continued pursuing their interest around the world as dog show judges. He also developed a love for tapestry weaving, producing pieces that were recognized in and outside the United States.

Joan and Klaus traveled the world to experience many different cultures, people and countries before settling in Belfast, Maine, where they remained active members of their community. Klaus lived an extraordinary life and will be remembered fondly by Joan, his two sons Rob and Alex and their respective spouses Kim and Yuping, and his sister, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and three nephews.

Memories and condolences may be shared with his family on his tribute wall.
