Joyce Ellen Creasey Obituary

Joyce Ellen Creasey, previously Turner, maiden name Spaulding, 85, of Freedom, ME, passed away on June 30, 2026, in Auburn of natural causes.

A graveside service will be held with close family and friends on July 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Albion. Attendees are welcome to attend a gathering following the burial at 111 Vista Dr., Albion.

Joyce was born in Freedom, ME, to Laura Stevens, who predeceased her. She attended Freedom Academy and was best known by residents for her decades-long role as Freedom town clerk.

As a young girl, she found a picture of a cute boy and told her peers at school that he was her boyfriend. Years later, in what can only be described as kismet, she discovered that the boy she was dating was the one from the picture. On June 21st, 1958, she married the love of her life, Meldon Turner, with whom she had seven children.

She was predeceased by Meldon at a young age, as well as by her beloved daughter, Lori Turner. She was also predeceased by her second husband, Robie Creasey of Liberty; her longtime companion, Paul Lafreniere of Albion; her stepfather, Harold Stevens; her stepbrother, Everett Stevens; her stepsister, Nancy Spaulding; and her grandson, Scott Anderson Jr.

Joyce was an avid church attendee and Eastern Star member. Her love of baking was passed down to those she loved in many ways: baking their favorite dishes, teaching them how to cook, and making sure the house was full of food during the holidays. In her leisure time, she enjoyed bingo, square dancing, Tupperware events, and so much more. Her love of crochet, often with a unique pattern, provided many she loved with something to wrap themselves in when she could not be there to wrap them in her embrace.

She is survived by her beloved sister, Carol Richardson; her children, Meldon Turner Jr. and wife Jill of Oakland, Michael Turner and wife Sandy of Albion, Lari Turner and wife Sally of Troy, Dyann Anderson and husband Scott of Freedom, Dennis Turner and wife Jennifer of Freedom, and Shawn Turner and wife Holly of Jackson; her grandchildren, Randy, Amanda, Jeremy, Josh, Ashley, Nicole, Amanda, Samantha, Cole, Eric, Taylor, Zackery, and Elodie; as well as several great-grandchildren. Though not her children, she grew close to Paul’s children, Cheryl, Tom, Dave, and Dave’s sister Maureen who continued to visit her over the years, as well as her great-aunt Virginia, who frequently called. She is also survived by many other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and those with special, lasting connections who would not traditionally be considered family.

She remained sassy and stubborn until the end, doing most things on her own terms. She will be missed dearly and kept in the hearts of all those who continue to cherish her and her stories, even in her absence.  Memories and condolences may be shared with Joyce's family on her tribute wall.
