Obituary of Mary A. McCausland
Our beloved Mary Anne McCausland passed into the next beautiful life on June 4th, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness for all those who were lucky enough to know her.
Born on August 2, 1963 in Presque Isle to Archie and Joan (Lathrop) McCausland, Mary was the eldest of three girls. Born with a beautiful spirit that only contained kindness and love, Mama was a blessing to her family in so many ways. Though their upbringing was rough, she maintained her gentle ways through the entirety of her life, and anyone who met her can attest to that fact. Mama was a collector and champion of the outcasts and the underdogs, having often been one herself. She graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1981, and shortly after went to work to help provide for her family along with her parents.
She brought two children into this world, Gabrielle in 1984 and Abigail in 1989. Mama was not a perfect person or parent, but she did the best she could with what she had. She raised us with manners, grace, love, and compassion, and we couldn’t have asked for better. Though she had many struggles with mental and physical health, we never doubted that we were her world. We may not have had much, but Mama made sure we knew she cherished us.
Mama was predeceasced by her parents, Archie and Joan, and her second mama, grandmother Mary Alvene (Ayotte) Lathrop. She is survived by her daughters as well as four grandchildren, Matthew I Trombley (Aldia Willard), Jadasti Rae McCausland-Montes, Amaya Jade McCausland-Byrd, and Maxwell Arthur Lee Clark. She is also survived by her sisters, Nancy McCausland Cray (Jerry) and Susan McCausland Wheaton (David), and their children Dustin and Courtney Cray and Lindsy Wheaton.
We will miss you forever and a day Mama, and though we can’t wait to see you we hope it’s a long, long time away. Our hearts will never be the same without you. Thank you for the privilege of being in your light.
Memories and condolences may be shared with her family on her tribute wall.
Donations can be made in memory of our mama to the Aroostook House of Comfort, PO Box 867, Presque Isle, ME 04769.
