Charlotte Penny Macomber Obituary
Charlotte “Penny” Macomber, 80, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026 after a courageous battle with Kidney Failure. Born on February 15, 1946, Penny lived a life defined by perseverance, kindness, and a lifelong love of music.
Penny was predeceased by her parents, Harold Boyer and Ellen Boyer; her brothers Richard, Alvin, and Emory; her first husband, Robert Macomber; and her second husband, Daniel Garrity. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Marcy Macomber of Winterport; and her beloved grandchildren, Ethan of Temple Terrace, Florida, Cadence of Freedom, Maine, and Hailee Roberts and her husband, Darrell Roberts of Hermon, Maine. She will be deeply missed by her cherished family and friends, and all who knew and loved her.
Penny grew up in Plymouth, Massachusetts. In 1963, she and her close friends formed a band called The Halo’s which consisted of Muffett Pratt, Sharon Edwards, Judy Ramsey, and Alison Boyd. The group performed together for several years and were even featured on a Miami, Florida radio station in 1964 — the same year Penny’s favorite band, The Beatles, came to America. The Halo’s were even offered the opportunity to perform for troops at Sondrestrom Air Base in Greenland, though prior commitments prevented them from accepting, they still considered this a great honor! Also that year, Penny graduated from Plymouth-Carver Regional Highschool. She would then complete a year of Post-Secondary education and later spent time teaching preschool.
She was later married to her Highschool sweetheart Robert Macomber in 1969 and one of her biggest joys was having her lifelong friend Suzanne Galletti in the wedding. She would even name Suzzanne the God Mother of her son Sean.
Throughout her life, she faced challenges with resilience and grace, becoming an inspiration to those around her. Penny had a remarkable musical talent and a deep appreciation for music, gifts that ran throughout her family. Her warmth, caring spirit, and enduring strength left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her faith was also evident to those who knew her as she spoke often of her excitement about the mansion that her Lord and Savior had prepared for her.
Her final 5 years were spent at the Orono Commons Nursing home where she made so many great friends. She specifically wanted her friend Ann to be mentioned as they built such a wonderful friendship over the time they were residents there.
The family in particular would like to thank the Nursing Staff at Orono Commons for the way they embraced Penny so lovingly over the years. And the way they cared for her in her final days. It was greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten.
A service celebrating Penny’s life will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Winterport Baptist Church, 100 Coles Corner Rd. Winterport ME 04496.
