Thomas Whyte Scott Townsend, age 69, died at his home in Waldo, Maine on Sunday March 15, 2026 with his wife and daughter by his side. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was the son of L. Scott Townsend Jr. and Elsie Jane Whyte Townsend.

Tom, also known as Earp, graduated from Belfast Area High School and later attended gunsmith school in Colorado. He established a career as an electrician that lasted for over 40 years. At the time of his cancer diagnosis he was working at Back Cove Yachts in Rockland, Maine. The friends he made in the 20 years he worked there became family to him.

Tom was an avid reader and a wealth of knowledge. He spent his time target shooting, fishing, golfing & solving crossword puzzles. A lover of classic rock, especially Led Zeppelin, Tom spent many of his evenings playing his guitar into the night.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Rosemary Dianne Townsend, their daughter Jennifer Whyte Townsend and granddaughter Elsie Mae Chard. Brother Laird Townsend, his wife Elizabeth Townsend, sister Helen Scott Reed and several nephews, nieces and lifelong friends. He is predeceased by his sister Sarah Harrison. 

A memorial service at St. Margaret’s Episcopal church in Belfast and a Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.  Memories and condolences may be shared with his family on his tribute wall.
