HAN REINO SAASTAMOINEN

With very heavy hearts and with a deep sense of loss we share the passing of Han Reino Saastamoinen at his home in Islesboro Maine on Feb. 24, 2026 at the age of 48.

Born at home on March 2, 1977 in Montrose, Colorado to David and Carole Saastamoinen (Nichter). He attended elementary school in Montrose before moving with his family to Maine. He was homeschooled for a period of time before attending Islesboro Central School. He participated in Track & Field and Odyssey of the Mind. After graduation Han attended the University of Southern Maine studying art and photography. He spent time in California working as a private chef and also ran a restaurant with his brother Ian in Los Angeles before returning to Maine.    It was in Maine he started his business The Finnish Carpenter after learning the construction trade from his step-father Paul. He remodeled many homes and built custom furniture displaying great talent in his achievements. His creative skills went far beyond the ordinary!

Han will be remembered for his kind hearted soul, his infectious smile and great laugh. He loved the outdoors, camping with friends and family, raising tropical fish, his dogs Rusty and Tucker and he MOST especially loved his son Oscar.

He was preceded in death by his father David Saastamoinen of Thomaston, Maine, his Grandparents Reino and Estelle Saastamoinen of Cushing Maine and Grandparents George and Mary Durkee of Islesboro, Maine.

He is survived by his son Oscar Saastamoinen of Seven Hills, Ohio, his former wife Christine of Seven Hills, Ohio, his mother Carole Nichter and Step-father Paul Nichter of Islesboro, Maine      brother Ian Saastamoinen and wife Jodi of Hope Maine and sister Mary Louise Czenkusch of Auburn, Maine along with many Aunts, Uncles, Nephews and Nieces.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the summer of 2026 at a time and date to be announced later.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to his son's educational fund cl o Carole Nichter 1145 Meadow Pond Rd Islesboro, Maine 04848.  Memories and condolences may be shared with his family on his tribute wall.
