Bruce Douglas Maurer Obituary

In Loving Memory of Bruce Maurer

January 13, 1946 - February 10, 2026

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved father, husband, grandfather, uncle, brother, in-law, mentor, and friend to many, Bruce Maurer.  Bruce was the firstborn of five sons to Earl and Anne Maurer of Clarence, New York.  His life was marked by amazing optimism, kindness, generosity, and loyalty to family, friends, and country.  He was a decorated and honorable member of the US Navy, serving oversees tours in Vietnam, Antarctica, Japan, Scotland, and the Mediterranean, among many other duty stations within the United States.  Bruce loved proudly serving his country and travelling the world as a member of the military.  He retired from the US Navy as an ENCM (SW) and continued his lifelong love of learning by moving to Maine to attend the University of Southern Maine to complete his Bachelor of Science in Applied Technical Education.

In his second career, he realized a dream he’d always had to become a teacher.  He was licensed in the State of Maine and taught at Mount View High School.  It brought him much joy to teach and mentor students and to encourage them to reach not just their potential, but beyond it.

Bruce’s zest for learning and adventure ushered him into a third career where he became a Master Plumber and licensed Propane and Natural Gas Technician.  He travelled throughout the state of Maine doing this work, but more important to him was having others apprentice under him.  Helping people grow both personally and professionally brought him deep happiness.

At home, he loved gardening, birdwatching, weather and storm watching, barbecuing, and music.  He always had a project in the works, and a story to share.  He was a lifelong fan of the Buffalo Bills and proudly considered himself a member of the Bills Mafia.  He loved sports and continued to play in bowling and softball leagues throughout his life.  He worked with the Boy Scouts while living overseas and was a Scout Master.  He was incredibly patriotic, never missing the opportunity to celebrate a July 4th or Memorial Day holiday by attending a community event or parade.

Through his unwavering strength and compassion, he touched countless lives and left an indelible mark on our hearts.  He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, brothers, nieces, nephews, and large extended family.  A celebration of life memorial service will be held by his family later this year.  Fair winds and following seas.

Memories and condolences may be shared on his tribute wall.
