William M. "Bill" Schouten Obituary
Bill was born and raised in East Hartford, CT to Josephine Freely Schouten (d) and William Marinus Schouten, Sr. (d).
He played many sports in middle and high school and played trumpet in marching band. Bill was a lifelong Yankees fan.
He spent a short period being fostered in Massachusetts by Jon Swedberg who had a large impact on Bills life both physically and spiritually all his adult life.
He was given the opportunity to learn government sales at about 21 years by the founder of Claremont in Connecticut and found the calling he was meant for, working in government sales for 39 years, finishing his work time with Nugentec, where he was given opportunity to share his experience building his division to be very successful.
In 2005 he married Amy Noel and was bonus dad to Colin Dillard. He grew exponentially as a husband and friend through Amys challenging unexpected health issues in 2016, 2021 and 2024.
Bill became an EMT in 2019, fulfilling a dream to truly help his neighbors in the small coastal town he lived in Maine. Insecure at first, he grew into a talented provider, having a heart for children and the elderly.
To all the nurses, Drs, CNAs, specialists, and support staff at “2500” Waldo County Hospital and Maine Med Center, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You made this unexpected diagnosis and journey smoother than it could have been.
To the loving staff at Sussman House in Rockport, I have no words. Bill was with you for just over twelve hours yet never have I ever experienced a more peaceful, tranquil place for both the patient and family. I feel so blessed Bill was able to be there for his last hours on this earth.
Finally, and most fondly, to the staff and fellow providers at Northeast Mobile Health Services. Words cannot express my gratitude. You accepted Bill into your service, helped him become better at his job, gave him feedback and encouragement and truly became the family he craved. Thank you to HR and the Director for stepping in to make sure Bill had what he needed as he needed it during his uncertain time. To the supervisors who shuffled schedules to have Bill transported by two of his well respected partners. And to those partners, who came, though so difficult, to bring him with the greatest care and dignity to the final facility of his earthly journey. He loved you all so much. I will always have your back when misinformed statements are made regarding this service.
A special thank you to the Medcom dispatcher who stepped up to make sure Bill could be transported by his own. I do not know you but you will never know how special that was to me and to Bill.
Bill quoted a scripture often while in medical care, until he was no longer speaking,
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Philippians 4:13
You’re home, my Bill. No more discomforts, no more insecurities, no more broken parts.
I miss you.
