Benton – Robert Leroy Costain passed away at Maine General Medical, Waterville, Maine , Wednesday afternoon January 7, 2026, at the age of 93.  He was born on May 24, 1932 in Holden Maine where he spent his childhood with his parents George Woodworth Costain and Nellie Edith (Merrill) Costain.

Robert graduated from Brewer High School.

He was predeceased by his wife Betty May (Stewart) Costain in July of 2012 and his daughter in–law Valerie (Pottle) Costain in December 2012.

He is survived by his two children Daughter Sherry L C Gray and Son-in-Law Gary H Gray and Son Robert S.Costain, five grandchildren Melissa Gray Delaware and her husband Wayne, Matthew Gray and wife Christina Gray, Marc Gray, Joshua Costain and Benjamin Costain, five great-grandchildren, Skylar D’Orio and her husband Dakota, Sophia Delaware, Zane Gray, Elsie Gray,  Jaden Costain and two great-great grandchildren Amelia D’ Orio and Oliver D’Orio.  He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Gerald, Russell, Harley, Preston, Elmer John, Everett and one sister Thelma Gray

At his request there will not be any funeral services.  A private graveside ceremony will be held in the spring. Memories and condolencs may be shared on his tribute wall.
