Obituary of Margaret H. Knowles

Margaret Hannah (Kingsbury) Knowles, age 91, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bangor.
Margaret was born on May 10, 1934, in Frankfort, the daughter of Nathaniel Kingsbury and Cora (Cunningham) Kingsbury. She grew up as a child in the great depression, which accounted for her work ethic and appreciation for things that some take for granted today.

In 1951, at just 16 years old, Margaret married the love of her life, Frank Knowles, beginning a marriage and partnership that spanned 66 years. Together they raised their family in Frankfort, where they lived their entire lives.
Margaret was widely known for her passion and expertise in antiques, particularly depression glass. In 1974, she was honored as the #1 depression glass dealer in the United States, a distinction that reflected her knowledge, dedication, and reputation in the field.

Above all, Margaret loved people—especially her family. She was a tireless supporter and promoter of her sons during their years as rock ’n’ roll musicians, a time she later said she wished she could relive again. Her pride in her children never wavered.

In her later years, Margaret took great joy in genealogy, sharing her remarkable memory and deep knowledge of local family and community history with her son Trevor. Her sharp recall and love of storytelling became a treasured gift to those around her.

Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved husband Frank, her son Michael, and ten siblings.

She is survived by her sister Frances; her sons Patrick and his wife Patrice, Frank, and Trevor and his wife Barbara, grandsons Michael, Shane, Jeremy, Jason, Trevor II, and Jamie; granddaughter Brenna; and many cherished great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry forward her stories, strength, and love.

Margaret will be remembered for her humor and wit, her passion for music, and the fierce love she held for her family. Her life was long, full, and deeply meaningful, and she will be greatly missed.
