Edna F. Hanscom Obituary

Edna “Dena” Hanscom age 85, of Belfast Maine, passed away peacefully, on December 18, 2025.

She was born on October 17, 1940 in Queens, New York to Anna & Albert Greiner. Dena graduated from Oliver Ames High School in 1958. Shortly after graduation, Dena was crowned Miss Easton in a local beauty pageant. Dena was a rare and natural beauty.

Dena married Steven Hanscom on March 11, 1961 in Easton, Mass and together they put down roots, purchasing a home in Old Furnace Village and raising three children. They were fortunate to live in a close knit community, surrounded by family in Easton. They later moved to Belfast, Maine were they worked together at their family owned used car dealership in Belfast.

After retiring, Dena found joy in volunteering at the Waldo County YMCA. She was known for her quick wit, generosity, and infectious smile. She loved participating in all holidays often festively wearing colorful hats at the Y front desk. One of her greatest joys was to spend time with her grandchildren who all lived close by.

Dena is survived by her husband, Steven of 64 years, children Linda Wry-Remillard, Bill Hanscom and Sue Lapham. Her grandchildren Tim, Dan, Kelsi, Katrina, Steven, Levi and Geoffrey. Great grandchildren Jackson, Emilia, Lucas, Haisley and Lucy. Her sisters Betsy, Joyce, Donna and brother Skip.

A Private celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Memories and condolences may be shared with her family on her tribute wall.
