John M. McCann Obituary

Bucksport- John M. McCann, 72, passed away peacefully August 29, 2025 surrounded by the love of his family. A Bucksport native, he was born July 24, 1953, the son of Daniel H. and Marjorie (Ann) McCann.

John worked at the Bucksport paper mill for 22 years before deciding to spend the second half of his working career doing something a little more adventurous. John spent the following 22 years exploring the United States, long haul trucking. In 2002, John met and married his beloved wife, Telly, who shared his adventures on the road, always by his side. John served on the Bucksport Town Council, Maine Municipal Association, and the Toast Masters Club. John's sense of humor was one to get a room laughing, especially his nieces and nephews. John inherited a love for cooking from his mother. He always enjoyed putting together a great meal. Photography, family, animals, and seafood were just a few of John's favorite things. Seafood, lobster especially, would always spike “the gout”, but that never stopped Johnny from enjoying. John will be remembered by all for his unconditional love for his family, his sarcastic remarks, and his devotion to those he loved.

John was a man who embraced life with a spirit of adventure and a heart full of love for “his girls” and grandchildren. He had a way of turning simple days into treasured memories, whether it was piling into a car for a trip, pulling over to pet every animal, taking crazy pictures, exploring new places, or ending summer nights with ice cream. Those moments will forever be cherished in the hearts of his girls. He continued his shenanigans with his 12 grandchildren. They always knew who to ask to go for ice cream, no matter the season. Maine will always be a place that echoes with his presence and his love.

John is survived and will be sadly missed by his loving wife Telly McCann, his mother Marjorie (Ann) McCann, his siblings, Vicky Wardwell and Peter, Mary Lenor and Roger, Peter McCann and Denise. His children, Charity Patrick and Tim, Amy Baddi and Elhoussin, Megan Ladrillono and Josh, Kelly Phipps and Jesse. Nieces and nephews, Rachael Wilbur and Hunter, Forrest Wardwell and Kate, Lindsay Hannan and Kyle, Emily Lenor and Jaz, Noah (Marv) Lenor and Sierra. The Albor family of the Philippines and Indiana will forever cherish the memories they had with Johnny. John is also survived by his 12 grandchildren, Kayla, Shelby, Mia, Zoe, Amelia, Zach, Ily, Liam, Percy, Arthur, John, Dawson, and one great grandchild, Jackson. John was predeceased by is father Daniel (Bud) McCann, grandparents A. Burton and Marjorie Craig, Thomas and Anna McCann.

John will be sadly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to give special thanks to Doug Randolph, his lifelong friend Frank Bartley, the nurses and wonderful staff at Waldo County Hospital, the staff and providers at Cancer Care of Maine, along with Gentiva Hospice.

If you feel inclined, donations can be made in memory of John, to the Bucksport Animal Shelter, P.O. Box C-1, 89 Franklin Street, Bucksport, ME. 04416.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 3 pm, at the Elm Street Congregational Church in Bucksport, ME.
