Obituary of Jayne P. Haverty

After a courageous battle with dementia Jayne Parsloe Haverty passed away peacefully “on the beautiful shores of Penobscot Bay” in Bayside Maine on Saturday April 12th. Bayside was her happy place, but those who knew Jayne knew she had a knack for making even the direst situation brighter with her infectious laugh or a turn of a phrase.

Jayne dedicated 35 years of her life to teaching the youth of Canton starting at the Elliot School and then over 30 years as a 6th grade science teacher at the Galvin Middle School. Many in Canton remember Jayne as their favorite teacher. Beyond education though she had a knack for making students of all levels simply feel good about themselves and learning. Her gardens in Bayside and Canton drew visitors and compliments from all around. When Jayne dedicated herself to a new craft, she mastered it. Whether it was refurbishing antique furniture, caning chairs, stained glass, or rug hooking Jayne took great pride in her work and had a lifelong desire to learn something new.

Jayne is survived by her son Bill of Bayside ME, son Michael and his wife Christine and two grandchildren James and Katherine of Arlington MA, Sister June (Parsloe) Seamans of Quincy MA, and her sister-in-law Alice Marie Parsloe of Bayside ME. She was predeceased by her brothers Stanley Parsloe, Willim J. Parsloe and his wife Lillian, Rolfe Parsloe and his wife Patricia, and Richard Parsloe, and her sisters Joan (Parsloe) Glasspool and her husband Alfred, Joyce (Parsloe) Gardner and her husband Ed. As well as many nieces and nephews who referred to her as Auntie Jayne-O.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday June 14th at the St. Francis of Assisi Church in Belfast ME with burial to follow at Northport Cemetery. A gathering will take place afterwards at the Shrine Club in Belfast. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Dementia Society of America.
