BBT changed my life. After graduation (BFA, French Translation minor) she sent me an application for the Harriet Hale Woolley scholarship in Paris - it appeared on her desk one day. She'd not heard of it before but thought of me. I applied, got it, moved to Paris for two years and spent that time making art. Coincidentally, I lived at the Fondation des Etats-Unis, where Betty had lived years before. The friends I made in Paris are my friends still, and that experience sent me on a path to living in NYC for many years, working as an art director before eventually returning to the Midwest. She was an immense influence (her words before my solo backpacking trip to Europe, "See the cities. You can't get a feel for the country until you see its cities." I think of her often. My heart goes out to her family for their tremendous loss.
