Mary E. Merrifield Obituary

Mary E. Merrifield 67 of Searsmont passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on March 17, 2025, at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport Maine. Mary was born on February 10,1958 in Bisbee, Arizona to Carmen Morales and Lawrence Gakin.

Mary attended schools in Bisbee, Arizona, then later moved to Maine. For years she worked at Captain Andy’s Lobster Shack, Megunticook Market and Sodexo which was part of MBNA in Camden, Maine.

She married Douglas Merrifield on August 16, 2003. They built their life together in Searsmont where Mary enjoyed planting flowers and working in her gardens while watching the hummingbirds throughout the spring, summer and fall months. Camping, four wheeling and spending endless hours with family and friends at MM Pond held many wonderful memories with all who were there with her and Douglas.

Mary was a devoted daughter to her mother, moving back to Arizona to care for her when she became ill, and was by her mother’s side for those last precious years.

Mary is survived by her husband Douglas, her daughter Candice (Robert) Bouchard, son Arthur Andrews and stepson Colan Merrifield.

Grandchildren, Elliot Miller, Xavier Miller, Carmello and Antonio Miller and Arthur, Nicholas and Acea Andrews.

Mary is also survived by a brother David Domingues of Bisbee Arizona and special friend Nancy Stevens and special niece Suzanne Farley.

Predeceased by her parents, sister Carol Benson and mother-in-law Ruth Merrifield.

A Celebration of Life will be announced as a later date. Memories and condolences may be shared on her tribute wall.
