Obituary of Antonia Mae Flagg
Antonia ‘Toni’ Mae Flagg, born to Lori Ann Stevens-Staples and Vincent Flagg on June 9, 1994, unexpectedly passed away on February 18, 2025. She is survived by the sunshine in her life, her son Matthew, his father Peter, both her parents and step-father Kevin Staples, brothers Jeremy Flagg and his partner Cheyanne and Jakob Staples; niece and nephew Oakley and Melvin Flagg, grandparents Beverley Hustus, Gene and Anne Flagg; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends.
She was predeceased by her papa Earl Stevens, her grandpa Victor Hustus, her great-grandmothers Dorothy Mae Butler, Connie Woods, and Grace Moneypenny; uncles Peter Flagg, Paul Flagg, and Chris Flagg; and cousin Starr Flagg.
Toni started her life at 3 pounds 13 ounces, a “tiny but mighty” fighter who spent a few days in the NICU at EMMC where for the only time in her life she could look like a giant compared to other babies there. She graduated there quickly and came home as the sunshine in the family. Through every challenge shown to her, she fought back and won. As a 3-year-old she became a big sister from the back seat of the car as her brother Jeremy was born on the way to the hospital, “Momma he just popped out” Toni happily welcomed becoming a big sister. Later as a 9-year-old old she was given the privilege of getting another little brother when Jakob made his arrival. Again she loved the opportunity of another sibling.
Toni faced the challenges of surgeries and many treatments but hit every milestone that doctors had said they didn’t know if she would be able to do. They weren’t sure she would walk, and she ran track in high school. She was a junior firefighter on the Searsport Fire Department where she handled fire hoses, wearing SCBA with complete fire gear, and did ice rescue training. She competed at Skills USA multiple years. She graduated from Belfast Area High School in 2012 and then earned an associate’s degree in liberal arts from Eastern Maine Community College.
She loved it when she traveled whether it was with family, school events or even when she worked for AthenaHealth. A great lover of music, one wonderful trip was when she went with family to see KISS perform and when she went to other concerts with some of her best friends.
In May of 2018 Toni welcomed the sunshine of her life, her son Matthew into the world. She loved that boy more than herself and tried to do all she could for him. She showed him how to smile and have a fearless spirit that hopefully he will carry with him for the rest of his life while his angel watches over him as he embraces his future.
Toni’s favorite title was mom, but a close 2nd was her title as auntie…this was to her friends’ kids and her cousins' kids that she loved like they are her own.
She helped show everyone around her a spirit and love of life that everyone who met her could feel. She shared joy and light with everyone from her family and friends, to the people that she met while waiting on them at any of her jobs that she took such pride in over her short time here. The best way to honor her is to share your smile while thinking of her. Remember her with love and light and the happiness that she tried to spread.
An event to honor Toni's life will be held at the Tarratine Tribe building at 153 Main Street, Belfast, March 28th, 2025 starting at 3 pm. An account will be established for her son Matthew’s needs if you would like to donate to that in lieu of flowers.
