Obituary of Tina Mattner
Martina “Tina” Mattner, 59, of Owls Head, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025, after a long 3.5 year battle with Stage 4 Melanoma.
Tina was born on February 5, 1965 in Prague, Czech Republic to Francis and Hanna Vaclavik. In Spring of 1968, her family and her fled as refugees to Switzerland. She grew up in a little town, Volketswil, a subdivision of Zürich, Switzerland, alongside her younger sister Susi and younger brother Patrick.
After graduating high school in 1982, Tina would go on to study English in Miami for a year. She also received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Throughout her early adulthood, she spent her time traveling the world; all over Europe, Costa Rica, the United States, Australia, Japan, the Canary Islands, Dubai and so much more. She had a great appreciation for fine arts, music, culture, food, etc.
From 1995 to 2016, Tina was formerly married to Robert Burgermeister and would welcome three daughters into the world, Natalie, Jasmin, and Amy. In 2001, Tina and Robert moved across the world to sunny Fountain Hills, Arizona.
During her time in Arizona, Tina spent her time as a stay-at-home mother to her three girls. From an early age, she knew she always wanted to be a mom and couldn’t wait to be one. Nothing was more important than her children. She built quite the rapport with friends. She had a strong passion for music and singing, some of her favorite artists being Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, and Norah Jones. Throughout the years, she would perform at many gigs as well as karaoke bars. Her voice was like butter.
In 2016, Tina moved to Rockland Maine, where she would live until her passing. Maine was a dream destination for her for many years. She always knew one day, she would eventually live on a coast, she’d make it happen one way or another. Tina had a spiritual connection with nature, specifically the ocean, as it gave her a calming sensation. During her time in Maine, she worked as a Supervisor at Goodwill. She loved her job and the people there.
Tina was diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma cancer in the fall of 2021. She underwent numerous radiation treatments, surgery, and immunotherapy. While the cancer was aggressive and painful, it did not diminish her bright, happy spirit. She remained positive and fought the cancer as hard as she could. During her battle with cancer, she continued to live her life, she travelled, spent time with family and her dogs, did activities such as singing, hiking, and much much more.
In 2023, Tina would go on to remarry to Ken Mattner. Although they were married for only a short while until her passing, they had a lovely, harmonious marriage.
Tina is survived by her husband Ken Mattner; her children Jasmin Burgermeister, Amy Burgermeister, Natalie Burgermeister-Perez and her husband Gabriel Perez, her two granddaughters Leona and Livia Perez; her brother Patrick Howard-Jones; her sister Susi Davies; her mother Hanna Vaclavik and father Francis Vaclavik; as well as nieces and nephews.
Tina will be remembered for her love of family; a devoted mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, and a friend.
A celebration of life will be held at Riposta Funeral Home on February 22nd, 2025 from 10 A.M to 12 P.M. Memories and condolences may be shared on her tribute wall.
