Obituary of Richard "Dickie" Emery Jr.
Richard (Dickie) Hoyt Emery Jr.
8/11/1957 - 1/17/2023
It is with unexpected sadness and broken hearts that we announced the passing of our beloved “Papa”, an amazing part of our families and community.
Richard (mostly known as Dickie or “Mr. Dickie” to his student friends) was the first born son of Barbara and Richard Emery Sr. followed by siblings Hoyt, Mark, Juanita and Wanda.
Dickie was employed by RSU 3. He began his career as a custodian at Walker School in Liberty, Maine in November 1976 at the age of 19. Forty-seven (47) years later he worked his last day in the same building he called his “home away from home”. He thought of all his co-workers as his “second family” and always said he had many “school wives” over the years. Over the 47 years he worked with so many wonderful people (too many to individually list here). His “school family” was just as important to him as his own personal family and he cherished those relationships very much over the years.
Dickie is pre-deceased by his Dad and first wife, Darlene Emery, Daryl and Amanda‘s mom, who he loved dearly. He also leaves behind his current wife, Johann and three “bonus” children, Cori , Kati, and Kyle as well as 14 grand- children: Julia, Nathan, Deacon, Cayden , Landen, Ashton, Lucas, Jacob, Gavin, Grady, Norra, Elijah, Amyah and Skyler Grace, who all loved and admired him.
With his passing, Dickie also left behind a broken-hearted community of close friends, extended family members, neighbors, students and acquaintances he met along the way. Too many to list but you ALL know how important your interactions, shenanigans, calls, visits, etc. with each other were. Please continue to cherish those memories that you all made with him as he did. So many funny stories have been shared.
Thank you all so much for supporting our families in the days ahead as we navigate our lives without our very special and beloved “Papa”.
There will be a potluck benefit dinner and campfire at the Liberty Community Hall, 3 Serenity Lane. Liberty, Maine on Thursday, 1/26/2023 beginning at 5 pm. Memories and condolences may be shared on his tribute.
