Obituary of Richard Amon Morse
Richard Amon Morse, 83, of Belmont, died unexpectedly in Belfast on June 11, 2009. He was born Sept. 16, 1925 in Lincolnville, the firstborn son of Amon Alden and Mary L. (Lermond) Morse. He served in the U. S. Army with the 123rd Infantry Regiment in Japan. He owned farms in Monroe, Morrill and Belfast. During the mid 1960’s, he worked for Walter Flowers on the former Chenery Farm in Belmont. In Monroe, Richard farmed and harvested Christmas trees; worked on the Packard farm in Searsmont, on State roads, had a blueberry-raking crew for many summers, worked in the woods and hauled pulp to the mills. He and Greta retired to their home in South Belmont. Richard is survived by his wife of 59 years, Greta; his children, Rose Newton and husband, Eugene of Belmont; Richard, Jr., and wife Donna Morse of Belmont and Camden; Gary Morse of Belmont; and Cherissia and husband, Mike Walker of Standish; seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Raymond Morse and wife, Janet; Amon Morse, Jr. and wife, Barbara, all of Northport; sisters, Isabel and husband, Robert Maresh, Annie and husband, Richard Cilley, all of Belmont, and Sylvia and husband, David Cushman of Chichester, NH, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Richard was predeceased by his parents, three infant brothers, and his beloved sister, Janette Mary Morse. Graveside services will be held Friday, June 19th, 1 p.m. in the family lot in Union Cemetery on Route 52 in Lincolnville, followed by a celebration of his life at Rose and Eugene Newton’s on the Lincolnville Road in Belmont.
