Obituary of Laurier Larry Roberge

Laurier (Larry) T. Roberge 92 Years Birth: 1/27/1919 Death: 2/21/2011 Larry went to be with his Lord & Savior on February 21, 2011 and to be reunited with his lifelong love and wife of 50 years, Gloria (LaPlante) Roberge. He was born in Waterville, Maine on 1/27/1919, the son of Thomas Roberge & Roseanne (Poulin) Roberge. He attended schools in Waterville and then proudly served his country in the Marine Corps in 1943. Thereafter, he was employed by Railway Express Agency for 34 years and later for Maine Central Railroad for 3 years where he retired in 1980. Larry also owned and operated a chicken farm in Fairfield Center, ME for many years up until 1969. After retirement and the loss of his dear wife on April 4/29/1990, Larry went on to spend the remainder of his life enjoying quality time with his 6 children. He became an avid golf enthusiast, playing until his health prevented it but continued to enjoy the televised national and world tournaments. One of his greatest pleasures was his childrens’ daily visits and sharing weekly lunch dates with them which became a tradition anticipated by everyone involved. Larry was predeceased by his brothers Ronald, Donald, Lucian and Victor and his sister Cecile (Roberge) Moniz. Larry is survived by his sisters Madeleine (Sister Ancillitia) and Gloria (Roberge) Garvin; children Linda and husband Joseph (Ron) Gagnon of Unionville, CT; Gail (Roberge) Glazebrook of Panama City, FL; Jane (Roberge) Noel of Winslow, ME; Barbara and husband Wayne Vashon of Benton, ME; Susan and husband Mayo Morris of Vassalboro, ME; Scott and wife Joy Roberge of Vassalboro, ME. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. Larry also leaves behind a very special friend, Peggy Languet whose friendship meant so much. There will be no visiting hours. A Funeral Mass will be held on March 5th, 2011 at 11:00 am at Notre Dame Church in Waterville, ME. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion Bourque Lanigan Post #5, 21 College Avenue, Waterville, Maine 04901. On behalf of Larry, his children wish to extend their sincere gratitude to all of Larry’s friends & the staff at the Woodland’s Assisted Living Center in Waterville as well as the many staff and nurses that cared for him at the Inland Hospital throughout the years as well as his primary care physician Dr. Theresa Farrington.
